JOHN KALOUSTIAN - Detroit Based Furniture Designer

Kaloustian earned his BFA from the College for Creative Studies. It was during college that his professional experience began with designing corporate aircraft interiors for Rockwell International. After graduating he began as a member of the Steelcase design staff. Just over a year later he established his independent design consulting practice, where he has designed contract furnishings, including seating and systems furnishings for companies such as Bernhardt Design, Harter, Haworth, Herman Miller, KI, Steelcase and Coalesse.

This is something I have seen examples of but I have never quite been ok with as furniture. The supporting part is all inverted screws...

This is something that reminds me of some of the designs in our class. A lounge type seat that seems a bit out of the ordinary.

I just love the joinery detail on this drawer. The shelf is otherwise pretty uninteresting but these would be great joints to accentuate.

This is beautiful. I love that they used structural support to look like a kite. I'm always a fan of playing up details so they don't look half-assed.

Furniture by Women

Here's a link to an interesting article I read about a show called "Furniture by Women":

and on that note, an article about Charlotte Perriand:

And then there's this: The Ventaglio 511 Table...probably one of my favorite pieces of all time.
