Charlotte Perriand

Check out Alana's post about furniture by women.

Tokyo lounge chair, 1954
Sold at action for $36,000. Odd fact, Jean Prouvé's
daughter, Simone, designed the upholstery.

  1. I'm curious as to who has $36,000 to spend on a chair. It looks comfortable though, an important quality for functional furniture design.

  2. Sidney, just as some people collect coins as a hobby, others collect historically important pieces of furniture. If coins can reach 1 million dollars at auction, I'm sure there are plenty of people that want to and can drop 36k on a chair. I don't like the upholstery though :(.
